Formia Station to the Ferry Port, with Luggage
A short downhill transfer, a few honest tips on suitcases and where to leave the car before sailing to Ponza or Ventotene.
In short
About 10–15 minutes on foot
Downhill from the station to the port; uphill on the way back.
Taxi with heavy bags
The simplest choice with children, big suitcases or reduced mobility.
Plan your luggage in advance
We know of no verified public left-luggage office to recommend.
From Formia-Gaeta station to the port
Formia-Gaeta station sits above the town centre. The ferry and fast-boat departures for the Pontine Islands leave from the port on the seafront below.
- On foot: roughly 10–15 minutes, mainly downhill. Fine with a backpack or a light wheeled case.
- Taxi: useful with several bags, children or tight timing.
- Local bus: routes and stops change; confirm locally before relying on one.
Leave a generous margin between train arrival and sailing: you still need to find the ticket office and the correct pier. The Laziomar ticket office opens one hour before each departure.

Formia-Gaeta railway station
Head towards the seafront; the port is downhill.
Where to leave your suitcases
Honestly: at the time of checking we cannot point you to a verified public left-luggage office at the station or the port. Formia Servizi Turistici does not run or book a luggage service.
- Your accommodation is usually the simplest solution: many hosts will keep bags before check-in or after check-out, but ask in advance.
- Luggage-storage apps sometimes list local shops; check hours, closing days and conditions for your exact date.
- Take it with you: if you are going to the islands, check your sea operator's luggage rules.
If you run a verified luggage service in Formia, contact the editors and we will check it before listing it.
Arriving by car
The clearest public option is the multi-storey car park at the station, Piazzale IV Novembre. The Municipality of Formia states that municipal parking, including this car park, has been free since 1 April 2026, until further notice.
Check the official municipal notice before travelling. Signs, reserved bays and privately managed car parks follow their own rules.
Before boarding
